From the Adamawa central senatorial district with Yola as headquarters, the “No Binani No Election” peace protest procession that passed through to the southern senatorial district, with Numan as headquarters, proceeded to the northern senatorial district of the state, with Mubi as the headquarters.
The population of women and youth Monday, overwhelmed the major streets in Mubi, displaying banners and placards with the inscriptions; “No Binani No Election,” “Qiran Jama’a,” “Sai-Matan-Nan,” chanting “Justice For Binani, Justice For Women, Justice For Participatory Democracy
From Yola North to Numan, Girei to Mubi North local governments the message is the same; the disenchanted by the delivered judgement say there should be no judicial disenfranchisement of their governorship candidate, the APC as a party and the electorates in general.
A federal high court sitting in Yola, Adamawa State has disqualified the governorship primary election conducted by the APC, the major opposition party in the state following a prayer by aggrieved contender who lost the election.
The court did not however order for a fresh conduct of primary election and/or give room for the party to field a governorship candidate ahead of the 2023 general elections.
According to the order, Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, a.k.a Binani should stop presenting or parading herself as a governorship candidate. The judgement did not go down well with the teeming electorates as much as it has thrown the Adamawa citizenry into mourning.
Beyond the judgment, the electorates, especially the women groups conceived that there’s a conspiracy to deny women participation in the democratic governance from the electioneering process by targeting Binani’s governorship ticket.
The reason for which the women could not express to the press. They however pointed out that Binani was the only female governorship candidate in the country. She is referred to as a phenomenon whose capacity, capability and competency to restore public confidence in, by delivering good governance with efficiency and effectiveness, devoid of undue sentiment are immeasurable and beyond comment.
Now that the high court judgement would be challenged before the court of appeal, the power of the people in the peace protest procession is the prayer that APC as a party and Judiciary should ensure justice for Binani, for women, to Adamawa electorates and participatory democracy.
“We, the women in Adamawa state would boycott the 2023 general elections if there’s no justice for Binani before the law.
The population of the peace protest procession in Mubi is assessed to be higher than that of the Yola North, Numan and Girei local governments put together; suggesting that there’s the growing awareness of the impact of registering grievances on the street for a redress.
“You call it over voting, who’s the culprit or could it be a complicity to conspiracy to cripple Binani’s rising popularity and political profile?
“The population of the peace protest in procession isn’t a fraud as you can see, for a body frowning at the fraudulent acts to challenge it with its axe,” the participants would protest.
