Federal Ministry of Women Affairs
Press Release
24th November, 2022.
Today, history is again made, as we witnessed a formidable feat in our journey towards entrenching democratic principles in our judicial system with the triumph of our Sister Senator Aisha Binani Dahiru as the Federal Court of Appeal in Yola ruled in her favour as the Governorship Candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State.
- I am most excited to witness this judgement in my tenure as Minister of Women Affairs. It sure calls for celebration and a renewed hope for Nigerian Women and Girls. This is truly an assurance that come 2023 Nigerian Women will celebrate the first female democratically elected Governor.
- I celebrate the three Justices of the Federal Court of Appeal, Yola, namely Justice T.Y. Hassan (Presiding), Justice M.O Bolaji and Justice J.G Anundagam. For too long Nigerian Women have been robbed of their mandate, it happened to me and the late Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan (aka Mama Taraba). We will no longer be silent when women are disenfranchised, we will not take up arms, but we will seek justice because we believe in our Justice System.
- This the time for us all as Nigerian Women to sheathe our swords, bury all the hatchets and recommit to support one another. Justice for one Nigerian Woman is justice for all. I also rejoice with Senator Stella Oduah on her victory, as we are again assured a Senatorial Seat come 2023.
- We therefore stand with Binani and all other women seeking political offices in 2023. The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs will continue to support the efforts of women to contribute their quota in National Development regardless of tribe, class or creed. United we continue to stand in our diversity.
Signed
Dame Pauline K. Tallen, OFR, KSG
Honourable Minister
