The Coalition of Accredited INEC Domestic Election Observers on tudy observing the conduct of the governorship supplementary election said it has foiled alleged rigging to have been committed at a polling unit in Toungo Ward, Yola South local government area of Adamawa State.
Speaking to the newsmen a while ago, the northeast zonal coordinator of the coalition, Alhaji Mukthar Hammanjoda disclosed that they observed a scene at Toungo Ward they suspected was an attempt to clear ground befitting for rigging.
“We intercepted a group of Kauraye, cocooned in hunters outfit that have occupied the polling centre in Toungo Ward, trying to scare electorates from the unit with the intent to rig the election. The police officer in-charge told us that their presence was to fortify the area against any political violence that could lead to election rigging and that the Division Police Officer was aware of their presence.
“However, the DPO denied that he has redeployed any informal security group to assist in fortifying any polling unit, when we contacted him. He directed that the so-called stick wielding hunters who declined to reveal the individual or group of individuals that contracted them for the assignment should vacate the scene with immediate effect.
“They were left the scene when we returned later for the updates,” the coalition Zonal coordinator said.
