The Chief Medical Director, CMD, Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, MAUTH Yola, Adamawa state, Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar has bagged the Physician of the Year (Pub Sector) 2022 Award. The position he competed with two other nominees in the category.
It is the 4th Physician of the Year (POTY) AWARD 2022 being organised by the Premier Medical Systems, PMS Nigeria Limited, known for providing Data, Marketing and Technology for the Healthcare Community, where 19 nominees won the awards in different categories, namely, Physician of the Year (Public Sector), Physician of the Year (Private Sector), Physician of the Year (Diaspora), Young Physician of the Year, Special Recognition Awards, Lifetime Achievement Award, Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Mother and Child Care, Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Oncology Care and Special Recognition Award for Excellence in Cardiovascular Care.
The event was held on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Marriott Hotel Ikeja, GRA, Lagos.
Prof. Auwal Muhammad Abubakar, a renowned scholar, distinguished ABUsite and current Chief Medical Director, CMD Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital MAUTH Yola, Adamawa state, the immediate past President, Paediatric Surgeons Association of Nigeria and the current chairman Committee Of Chief Medical Directors, CCMDs and Medical Directors MDs of Federal Tertiary Hospitals, led teams that have carried out multiple surgeries leading to the successful separations of CONJOINED TWINS that earned him several awards.
Prof Auwal has introduced motivation innovation in health administration leading to the establishment of the Hospital Paupers Fund, aimed at raising funds to foot the hospital bills of the indigent patients and the introduction of the ward assessment for the best ward of the month award, among other initiative aimed at effective and efficient healthcare service delivery.
Prof Auwal who dedicated the award to the health administrators, staff and patients argued that with the government support; the political will in implementing health policies, Nigeria would provide qualified personnel and quality healthcare better than that which endeared Nigerian professionals to migrate for greener pastures abroad.
Prof. Auwal was born on 20th January, 1966 in Mayokila village, Leko District of Jada local government area of Adamawa State, Nigeria.
