Dr. Yarima gave a talk on the effect of heat from the hot sun, defining the current weather, that is capable of causing meningitis, and other complications associated with kidney, if appropriate measures are not being adhered to.

He talked about the need for cleanliness and proper hygiene, the need to live in a well ventilated environment and the call to avoid walking and working for long hours under the sun.
“There’s the need for those who work under the sun to have a shelter by cooling off even under tree sheds at some intervals.
“People should cultivate the habit of visiting family and friends who have cooling systems either at home or in the offices, provided that they will not be an obstruction” Yarima said.
The health consultant further observed that “there’s nothing wrong if one could be visiting established eateries during hot season and help himself with even a bottle of mineral, sipping slowly for long hours under a cooling system. This could go a long way cushioning the effect of heat, such as sweating profusely and dehydration”.
Yarima added the need to be taking water continuously. “People should drink plenty of water during this season, in addition to the need to eat fruits and a well balanced diet.
“Parents should prevent their wards from playing under the sun during this hot season; school administrators should take note of this as well,” Dr. Yarima said.
