The Commander of Kano Shari’ah Police, known as Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa has tendered his resignation in a short clip posted on his official Facebook page on Friday.
Daurawa’s resignation came less than 24 hours after Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, a.k.a Abba Gida-Gida faulted the method of operations deployed by Hisbah to subdue immorality in the state.
While addressing Ulama at the Government House on Thursday, Gida-Gida kicked against the mode of invading public places in the name of arresting prostitutes, an act he considered uncivilized.
The Governor frowned at Hisbah’s methods of arresting suspects, insisting the board must review its present operations to correct the wrongs in society.
While reacting to the Governor’s comment, Daurawa explained that the Hisbah board under his stewardship has embarked on a series of activities to correct the immorality being perpetrated in the society, especially by social media influencers.
According to Daurawa, Hisbah has done what he believed was right and under the tenets of Islam by inviting for a dialogue, the Kannywood stakeholders and the tiktok influencers on how best they could pursue their businesses without infringing on Islamic rites.
Daurawa, while resigning his appointment, sought for forgiveness from the government, the governor and the people of Kano for the weaknesses, if there were, under his watch and wished for Allah’s guidance for the governor in the discharge of his duties and peaceful coexistence.
