Accreditation and quality assurance committee led by Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar and Dr Ali Danburam visited the colleges of health technology across the state.
The committee is constituted following the growing proliferation of private health institutions in the state and the outcry that greeted the sealing of some of the health institutions due to operational standards limitations.
As its term of reference, the committee is to confirm the accreditation status, assess the sitations, structures and general teaching and learning facilities in addition to genuine staff strength.
The bottomline is to address challenges associated with quackery in healthcare service delivery by strengthening the quality of programmes run by the health technology institutions in the state
For integrity credibility, both chairmen of the accreditation and quality assurance committee were chief executives of Federal Medical Centre, FMC Yola and their efforts in having the health facility upgraded to a teaching hospital, as it is now called Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, M.A.U.T.H Yola, are to say the least, beyond comment.
The committee earlier visited the health technology colleges in Adamawa Central Senatorial District before moving to the Southern Senatorial District.
Even though, a government owned and produced so many health technicians in health records and information system, pharmacy, dental technology and medical laboratory technology among others and still counting, Ben Yusuf Yerima reported that while in the Northern Senatorial District, the committee Monday, visited Adamawa State College of Health Technology, Michika based in Mubi, considered as the headquarters of the northern zone.
Commenting, Prof Auwal said the health institution has done reasonably well in terms of certain physical infrastructure, namely, library, ICT and laboratory, in addition to some fundamental operational requirements.
Dr Yakubu Suleiman Bwade is the college Provost, he commended and thanked the committee for professional guidance on how to work on the identified weaknesses.
Bwade assured the management’s commitment to the committee’s advice with a view to meeting the basic requirements.
