Adamawa: Dedan, Ibrahim, Jocktan, Yarima, others win NUJ election
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa state chapter, has changed its leadership, Saturday.
In an adjudged to be peaceful, free, fair and credible election, under the supervision of officials from the NUJ national secretariat, Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan of the Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) scored 66 votes to defeat Kate Mercy Aliyuda of the Adamawa Television Corporation (ATV) Yola and state coordinator NAWOJ who polled 47 votes and Umar Dankano of the Peoples Daily newspaper and former vice chairman NUJ who scored 33 votes for the chairmanship position.
Comrade Fidelis Jocktan of the Fombina FRCN, was elected secretary having scored 85 votes to defeat Emmanuel Njampri of the Sunrise newspaper, who scored 65 votes.
Other officials who were elected unopposed include: Abdullahi Ibrahim of the Adamawa Television Corporation (ATV) Yola as Vice Chairman
Alh. Shekarau Yarima of Gotel communications Auditor,
Mary Adamu of NTA Financial Secretary
Isa Tukur of Adamawa Broadcasting Corporation, (ABC) Assistant Secretary
Felicia Amos Dauda of The Scope newspaper Treasurer.
The oath of office taken immediately after the election, was administered by Barrister Mohammed Abdullahi of the State Ministry of Justice with certificates of returned elected being presented to the new leaders.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Ishaka Donald Dedan, the newly elected chairman, having given God the glory, commended co-contestants for the exhibited maturity and members for mandating him to victory, solicited for the support and cooperation of the entire member with the promise of operating an open-door, participatory kind of leadership to be able to fine-tune the fortunes of the union enhance professionalism and instill ethical standard.
Dedan appealed to the Adamawa State Government to come to partner with NUJ to enable the Union progress with its programmes away from the previous narratives.
In his remark, Mr Solomon Kumangar
the Director General Media and Communication to the governor, having congratulated the NUJ for electing new executive members, assured government’s readiness to assist the union towards enhancing professionalism and productivity.
Speaking to the Periscope political desk immediately after the election, Alhaji Umar Dankano commended the peaceful conduct of the election, which he certified the authenticity as being free, fair and credible.
Dankano, having realised that it was not the voting but “God gives power to whomsoever and whensoever He wishes” congratulated those who were returned elected.
“We shall give them our maximum support and cooperation, just as we were given during our tenure that has just terminated, to be able to succeed,” Dankano said.
