The Periscope reporter
Consious, committed critical, anti criminal, aimed at combating corruption, concerned citizens have petition the chairman, Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, ADSUBEB over what they critically construed as criminal activities characterised by corruption, amounting to falsification of service, extortion, assault and intimidation of staff with the Ganye Local Education Authority, jointly taken as an unrepentant vocation by the former Education Secretary, Miss. Verensuso Telu, the sit tight to have been retired since.
The petitioners; Abdulkadir Joda and Abubakar Lepso, both residents of Ganye, Ganye local government, southern senatorial distinct, through their solicitors and legal consultants, Njidda & Co, Husna Chambers, accused telu of Suppression of records, pointing out that she ought to have been retired since June, 2020 as she was employed into the
Adamawa state civil service in 1985, a record she altered with the introduction of E-payment system and is currently one of the contenders for the office of the Education Secretary, Ganye Local Education Authority: a criminal precedence.
Buttressing their points, the petitioners revealed that ADSUBEB has in August, 2020 requested Mrs Telu to foward her retirement notice and that the Local Government Chairman should nominate three (3) candidates for the office of Education Secretary, a request that is snubbed rather dishonourably; Telu has instead solicited for more years, an act against the civil service rule.
“She is now one of the contenders for the office of the Education Secretary, Ganye LEA and our Clients felt that they have the duty
and responsibility to bring this to your attention so as not to set a bad precedent into the service,” the petitioners revealed.
The petitioners also accused Telu of extorting “N50,000.00 each from all the Headmasters under her control whose schools benefited from the
School Based Management Committee (SBMC) fund by the UBEB.
“We verily believed our Clients that the government school feeding programme in Ganye Local Government was frustrated by the said
Miss. Verensuso Telu as she went about exhorting money from those food vendors in the name of returning it to the government coffers.
“Those monies were never returned and those who stood out to question that among the staff of the LEA Ganye were victimised in
one way or the other”.
According to the petitioners, Telu “runs a corrupt system where appointments are based on bribes and kickbacks. Headmasters who refused to give her bribe were refused supplies from the government. She intimidates Head
Teachers and threatens to either transfer them or apply other measures to frustrate them should they come fotward to complain”.
Mrs Telu, a group alleged, lacked financial discipline, administrative efficiency and effectiveness; her leadership is summarily characterised by nepotism. She is also considered as an unpatriotic person whose attitude is more accused than excused as community wagged, recalling how she was a principal in the scandal associated with building and renovation of Government Secondary School Buwangal; a community project being assisted by World Bank, where using a proxy, she requested to be bribed before granting permission for the commissioning, a shameful incident that has attracted the press and went viral via social media sometimes in 2020.
The petitioners expressed their fears if a corrupt prone person who would have been enjoying here retirement, luxuriating with what was extorted and looted, would be allowed to unlawfully have her service years extended. They urged the ADSUBEB chairman “to use your good office to thoroughly investigate
the allegations stated above and we assure you that many other allegations bordering on corruption, extortion, bribery, intimidation and misused of official property will be revealed as many are willing to come forward to testify”.
The petition letter signed by Abdulrahman Njidda Esq, is copied to the Hon. Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, the Divisional Police Officer, Ganye and the SSS Boss, Ganye.

The Executive Chairman
Universal Basic Education Board
No 26 Ahmadu Bello Ward
Adamawa State, Yola
Sir,
PE TITION AGAINST MISS. VERENSUSO TELU, THE FORMER EDUCATION SECRETARY, LOCAL EDUCATION AUTHORITY GANYE ON FALSIFICATION OF SERVICE, BRIBERY, CORRUPTION, EXTORTION AND INTIMIDATION OF LEA STAFF, GANYE
The above subject matter refers.
We act as Solicitors and Legal Consultants to Abdulkadir Joda and Abubakar Lepso, hereinafter refers to as our Clients and we write you
pursuant to their specific instruction and authority. For the purpose of this
letter, Abdulkadir Joda will be referred to as our Client {I) while Abubakar Lepso will be referred to as Client (2).
We have been briefed by our Clients and we verily believed them to be true
and correct as follows:
1 The former Education Secretary, Miss. Verensuso Telu’s retirement period has elapsed since June, 2020. She was employed into the
Adamawa State Civil Service in 1985 but during the E-payment system introduced by the government, her official documents were tempered with, modifying her year of appointment to read 1990
during the data capture period.
2. The former Education Secretary, instead of proceeding on retirement
as contained in her first appointment, she decided to seek for more years against the civil service rule of Adamawa State.
She is now one of the contenders for the office of the Education Secretary, Ganye Local Government Area and our Clients felt that they have the duty
and responsibility to bring this to your attention so as not to set a bad precedent into the service.
3. The ADSUBEB in August, 2020 asked her to write her retirement notice and also asked the Local Government Chairman to nominate three (3) candidates for the office of Education Secretary, surprisingly her name made the nominated list as she kept on insisting that her
retirement year has been increased by the government the fact of which, remains known only to her.
4. It is our brief that the former Education Secretary, Miss. Verensuso Telu collected Fifty Thousand Naira (N50,000.00) each from all the Headmasters under her control whose schools benefited from the
School Based Management Committee (SBMC) fund by the UBEB.
5. We verily believed our Clients that the government school feeding programme in Ganye Local Government was frustrated by the said
Miss. Verensuso Telu as she went about exhorting money from those food vendors in the name of returning it to the government coffers. Those monies were never returned and those who stood out to question that among the staff of the LEA Ganye were victimised in one way or the other.
6. The case of Abubakar Lepso Client (2) is as he was transferred verbally without any official document from his old school to a new one and he insisted on having his own transfer letter but was denied same by the former Education Secretary. When he persisted his demand for his transfer letter, it fetched him a dirty slap three ( 3)
times on his face by one of the cronies of the former Education Secretary. In the event, his salary was stopped by the former
Education Secretary after being humiliated
7. Pathetic also is the case of one Ummul-kairu Hamidu Gambo who wrote to the former Education Secretary and successfully obtained
a leave without pay for three (3) years from 2017 to 2020. On the expiration of this three (3) years period, she came back to be reabsorb into the service but was denied and instead she was requested to pay
the sum of Twenty Five Thousand Naira (N25,000.00) and later Ten
Thousand Naira (NI0,000.00) to the former Education Secretary in
the name of processing her document, which was discovered to be yet another manner of extortion.
8. The former Education Secretary appointed a team of APC loyalists as Assistant Directors in the LEA Ganye as she turned the LEA into her personal property. For instance, she used the official vehicle of the LEA for personal errands. It was on one of those errands that the said
vehicle involved in an accident with a heavy truck and the damage to
the said heavy truck cost Seven Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira
(N750,000.00) which money remains unpaid and the matter is still before the Ganye Divisional Police. The damage which the said official vehicle (Hilux) suffered is better seen than imaging. A background check revealed that the driver in whose hand the accident occurred was not an official driver of the LEA. Again, she used the said vehicle and engage the said unofficial driver to teach her how to drive, using the official vehicle against the civil service rule. This fact
can be verified from the office of the Ganye Divisional Police.
9. She runs a corrupt system where appointments are based on bribes and kickbacks. Headmasters who refused to give her bribe were refused supplies from the government. She intimidates Head
Teachers and threatens to either transfer them or apply other measures to frustrate them should they come fotward to complain.
In conclusion, her intention and drive to be reappointed as Education Secretary is likely going to cause security breach in the LEA and without. We urge you to use your good office to thoroughly investigate
the allegations stated above and we assure you that many other allegations bordering on corruption, extortion, bribery, intimidation and misused of official property will be revealed as many are willing to come forward to testify.
Thank you.
Yours Faithfully,
