Ardo Kaku pastoral community in Mayo-Ine district, Fufore local government area, central senatorial district of Adamawa state, northeast Nigeria will be allocated a land for the establishment of school for their children.
This is revealed Saturday, by the district head of Mayo-Ine, Alhaji Lawal Mukthar (Marafa Mayo-Ine) during a courtesy visit paid to him by FUDECO delegates led by the Adamawa state coordinator, Hajiya Jamila Hassan and the representatives of the Ardo Kaku pastoral community, led by the Ardo Kaku Galadima himself.
The development is in response to the request by the Fulbe Development and Cultural Organisation, FUDECO, during a courtesy visit to HRH Lamido Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, to graciously transfer ownership of the land located at Mayo-Ine village, earlier allocated to Ardo Kaku Galadima and other herdsmen displaced in Kodomti village, Demsa local government area, southern senatorial district of the state, to relocate.
“Ardo Kaku lost over 70 members of his immediate family, to what was considered as an attempt at ethnic cleansing, said to be orchestrated by seeming sadist-ego-ethnic-militia-mania,” an elder earlier revealed to the Periscope.
The land in question, it is later gathered, does not fall under the Emirate Council heritage. It belongs to the family of Alhaji Bashir Bamanga, the village head of Mayo-Ine who generously donated same to the displaced pastoralists to live for as long as they desire.
Ardo Kaku displaced pastoral community is allocated the land at Mayo-Ine village to relocate about four years ago without any prompting; free of charge and free from any tax.
The four years, to be considered probationary period recorded commendable peace, mutual coexistence and harmonious relationship.
Both the district head and the village head commended Ardo Kaku pastoral community for peaceful coexistence and mutual respect – the essence of Pulaaku – where they acknowledged that even a chicken did not destroy farmland and farm produce, not to talk of cattle to have resulted in mutual antagonism between farmers and herders in Mayo-Ine, a village known as the most hospital, accommodating and peaceful in the area.
Based on this, the Mayo-Ine chieftain has approved a beffiting land to be allocated to the pastoral community for the establishment of a beffiting Ardo Kaku community nomadic school.
“I shall invite members of council as soon as possible to deliberate and identify befitting land where the nomadic school can be established for the benefit of Ardo Kaku pastoral community and even beyond. This, I assure you, will not take time,” the district head said.
The chieftain commended FUDECO for standing by the displaced, exploited and the oppressed accross the country and beyond, most particularly, for supporting the displaced Ardo Kaku peace living pastoralists to have a Nomadic school.
Responding on behalf of FUDECO, Jamila Hassan commended the district head, Alhaji Lawal Mukthar (Marafa Mayo-Ine) and the village head of Mayo-Ine, Alhaji Bashir Bamanga for playing the ansars in their Madinah to the muhajiruns; the peace loving and peace living displaced pastoralists.
FUDECO also commended Adamawa Emirate Council, the Adamawa state government through the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education, ADSUBEB, the National Commission for Nomadic Education, NCNE, and the media for their support and cooperation
Commenting, the overjoyed Ardo Kaku Galadima said he lacked the words to express the gratitude on behalf of the community.
Galadima thanked the Adamawa Emirate Council, the district head and the village head of Mayo-Ine and the FUDECO for standing by them.
“We’re being invited to relocate back to Demsa, where we were being displaced. We’re told that peace is restored and our lives and property would henceforth be guaranteed. We were then contemplating on returning back to the chiefdom at the behest of the chieftain. However, with this development, that our children will get nomadic education here, remaining in the peaceful Mayo-Ine is non negotiable. We’ve come to stay put and we promise to continue to respect the leadership and the law of the land,” Ardo Kaku Galadima said.
Commenting on the development, A peace advocate with the United Nations-POLAC, AmbP Adamu Ayuba Alhaji said, “with the peace, mutual coexistence and harmonious relationship testimonies, one wonders why the devil in the displacement of the peace loving, peace living pastoralists. A foundation for peace and unity; the essence of mutual coexistence must be revisited”.
FUDECO, a non governmental organisation, could stand – by means of advocacy – as a human right movement. It strives to restore confidence of and in Fulani related associations by among other efforts, playing significant role in the relocation of the displaced Ardo Kakus, conceived that the children of the herdsmen would need education to be able to be selves-salvaged from the shackles of stereotyping, alienation, extortion, exploitation, oppression, subjugation, bamboozle, servitude and savagery, hence floated the nomadic school named after the community head, Ardo Kaku Galadima and was funded by the International Indigenous Women Forum, FIMI- AYNI, the Periscope earlier reported
“The school established on September 13, 2021, has so far enrolled 184 pupils: 29 males, 155 females.
“To be able to have a formal backing in tune with the standards of the Universal Basic Education and the National Commission for Nomadic Education, Ardo Kaku will need to have even a single block of classrooms, the Periscope would report.
