National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has decorated the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, FMC Yola, Adamawa State, Northeast Nigeria, Prof Auwal Muhammad Abubakar with War Against Drug Abuse, WADA badge, suggesting effective collaboration between the two organizations in the war against illicit substances including drugs.
The decoration was made Tuesday, at the induction/orientation lecturer orgainised by the management of FMC Yola for her newly recruited staff.
Decorating the Medical Director who was ably represented by the Head of Clinical Services of the Hospital, Dr. Ahmadu Baba Usman, the State Commander, NDLEA, Adamawa State Command, Mr. Agboalu Femi Samson (Commander Narcotics) said that FMC Yola remains the most collaborative organisation, being also the first and only organisation in the state that sought the services of the NDLEA to conduct drugs integrity test for her 403 recently recruited staff.
The Assistant Commander, Narcotics, NDLEA, Adamawa state, Mrs. Mathias Masoti presented a paper on Dangers of Drug Abuse on Staff Development, after which some illicit drugs, Indian Hemp, energy drinks and other dangerous to health substances were displayed.
Participants have also learnt that formalin that is commonly used as an industrial disinfectant and as a preservative in funeral homes and medical labs, referred to as suck and die solution, is that mispronounced as sukurdai that some people take.
The Assistant Director Programmes with the National Orientation Agency, NOA, Adamawa state, Mr. Richard Bala Dangari, presented a paper on Manpower Relationship with Institutions and Clients in the Face of Work Ethics.
The paper pointed out that “no matter how intelligent a staff could be, if he/she introduces the wrong ethical values into the assigned work schedules, such person is bound to falter. No society, institution or profession can achieve meaningful advancement when it is not properly regulated”.
The paper emphasised that manpower are the newly recruited staff of the FMC. It means labour force, workers, workforce or simply people; men and women.
The paper stressed that “institutions will be impotent when there are no manpower to man the sector. Therefore, you represent the aggregate of resources, expertise and professionalism that are required for this reason.
“As requisite personnel of the FMC, you are expected to add value to the mandate of this institution; because it is assumed that you have been sufficiently trained and your capacity has been built to face the task ahead of you.
“You are implicated by your certificates, which suggests that you have been found worthy and fit morally, mentally and educationally/professionally. The time has come for you to prove yourself right or otherwise”.
Sanusi Rufa’i of admin department, FMC Yola, picking from the civil service rule, presented a paper on indiscipline, where offences that will lead to termination of appointment are listed and explained.
The Head of Paediatric Department, Dr. Bulus, and the representative of nursing department, Mr. Bankohole presented papers on roles of physicians and nursing and midwifery ethics.
The Anti Corruption and Transparency Monitoring Unit, ACTU, FMC Yola, represented by Dr Barkindo, presented a paper on corrupt offences, transparency and integrity, while the SERVICOM of the Centre, represented by Mr. Adigun presented a paper on service charter; effective and efficient service delivery in a timely manner.
The Head and the Deputy Head of Clinical Services of the Centre, Dr. Ahmadu Baba Usman and Dr. Dahiru Ribadu have in their opening and closing remarks, having congratulated the newly recruited, urged them to remain disciplined, diligent and dedicated to their assigned responsibilities. Emphasis was placed on the reason for the orientation lecture.
They thanked the NDLEA and NOA for for the collaboration and inspiring presentations.
