— The evil that men do lives after them; the good is oft interred with their bones— Marc Antony in William Shakespeare’s JULIUS CAESAR
It was not a drama of some sort. it was a serious matter; one would have been banished as in the ancient times or would have rot in jail in modern times but would it be sufficient to address the tearing treachery?
The question is asked, what happened to Judas Iscariot after the dramatic show of betrayal in the Garden of Gethsemane, He’d not been seen since, even in the silent city of sins. However, “The evil that men do lives after them…” William Shakespeare the playwright, would in Marc Antony say, (See Julius Caesar).
The members of the Labour Party, LP, in Adamawa state, whose labour shouldn’t be like that given to a mad man to fill a basket with water, have decided to discard what could crudely be described as fruit coat; tackling discomfort occasioned by scavenging houseflies.
The executive committee of the LP in Adamawa, said to be at the behest of the party members, has on Thursday disgraced the state party chairman, Mr Christopher Nicholas out of office, over alleged fraud and betrayal of trust typical of disloyalty to the party, thereby directing the Vice Chairman, Dr Zion Maina to take over scene the chairman
Reacting to the allegation, the embattled chairman, as natural with a resistance to change, said he still retained his position of power and responsibilities, arguing that the signatories to his impeachment letter were as fake and baseless the allegations as the impeachment notice itself, adding that there was no decision ever made or taken by the party under his watch, which appeared to be entirely independent of the resolution or consent of the stakeholders.
The allegations that warranted the impeachment, as read by Dr Zion Maina, bothered on selling of membership cards, divulging of information and withholding of the list of state executive members of the party to have been submitted to the INEC office. These were observed to be in violation of the party’s constitution.
Having duly and dutifully assumed the upgraded responsibility as the state chairman of the Labour Party, the Periscope Global sought for his take on the controversy. Dr Maina simply said there was no controversy but a disloyalty occasioned by betrayal of trust, by a lone member whose intolerable actions so inimical to the party, cost him his position.
Maina said that the sack letter issued to the former party chairman was signed by the entire 24 executive members of the party at the behest of the entire party members who, in search of Judah, were disenchanted by the Judas’ roleplay.
Maina maintained the allegation that 9,000 membership cards were issued by the national headquarters. However, only 5,000 copies were issued to members of the party in the state, what happened to the remaining 4,000 copies?
Maina disclosed that Nicholas has committed unforgivable atrocities that they as a party, initially overlooked some of them, thinking that he could hearken to the call for teamwork as a team leader. He however became Intolerable when he repeatedly said that he would only cast his vote to Peter Obi for president, while cursing the governorship flag bearer with other legislative candidates of the party in the state.
“Nicholas has accused our governorship candidate, Alh Umar Mustapha Madawaki, a.k.a Otunba of Ekiti of trying to hijack the party and replace him as a party chairman with a Muslim candidate and that Otunba was not in anyway giving him money.
“Nicholas was also found to be in a secret political romance with politicians from the ruling party in the state; divulging confidential information about our plans of action. In fact, the Labour Party stakeholders he claimed to be consulting are found to be members of the PDP.
“We realised early enough the damaging effect of a cracked wall, hence we decided to fix it.
“Everyone knows, except perhaps the gullible ones that our governorship candidate, Otunba of Ekiti is a detribalised personality who carries everybody along. Therefore, the conspiracy in trying to polarise the party along religious lines could not hold water.
“I’m not a Muslim but a Pastor for so many decades and everyone knows me, if our governorship candidate has a secret plan to smuggle a Muslim to take over, how comes I’m now the state chairman of the party?
“It is only being unserious, to say that those who signed the vote of no confidence against the chairman were fake members of the Labour Party is to suggest that I’m also a fake member. The question we should then ask is, what can qualify one to be a bona-fide member and better still, an executive member of the party?” Maina would point for a reflection.
Maina said that what the former chairman did was to reduce the party to the point of inactivity, arguing that other than the Peter Obi campaign group, there’s no activity at the party state level initiated by Mr Nicholas since his assumption of office as state party chairman.
“You can be sure that the Labour Party, our party, is a party to win at the state level, considering a call for a popular call to rebrand the state. We have credible candidates for the task of rebranding. However, in winning the elections, we have to weed, we have to remove the rotten egg, we have to separate the chaff from the grain and that’s what we’ve done,” The new chairman said.
