The electorates in the ancient city, Yola South, Adamawa State have picked the baton, proceeded with the peace protest, expressing displeasure as though exercising franchise and/or exorcising the devil in political Adamawa they considered excruciating; “causing excessive suffocation that the sadist egoist cashes on,” over what they regarded as harsh Anka judgement that voided the APC governorship primary election in the state, hence a disqualification of the Distinguished Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, a.k.a Binani from flying the party’s governorship flag to victory, even after having been vindicated from the vote buying allegation, as Victoria Vincent would voice out to the press.
The resounding “SAI-MATAN-NAN” slogan kept a continued echo, displaying placards and banners, chanting “No Binani No Election,” “Justice for Binani, Justice for Women, Justice for Participatory Democracy and Good Governance, ” as the procession in peace protest Tuesday, from different angles converged at Jabbama Roundabout, the entrance to the ancient city, where the Adamawa Emirate Palace is situated, before proceeding to the APC local government secretariat to register their grievances, calling for justice and the renewal of Binani’s Mandate, lest there would be no meaningful election in Adamawa state few months to come.
It is interesting to note that in the federal high court judgment that disqualified Adamawa APC from participating in the 2023 governorship election, both the complainant, Malam Nuhu Ribadu and the defendant, Sen Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, a.k.a Binani hailed from South North local government.
Now that the high court judgement would be challenged before a higher court of competent jurisdiction, the peace protest procession pointed out that they would consider nothing other than justice for Binani’s Mandate, where they put it that a governorship election, with the technical exclusion of the APC in Adamawa state, would only amount to disenfranchising their candidate mandated to beat and the electorates desirous of good governance, equality and equity.
A political pundit puts it that the overwhelming population, joining the popular call for the peace protest procession, points to the power of the people and the positive position of the court of public opinion prior to the appeal court judgement.
