There are rumours going round that the members of the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) Adamawa State Chapter, either individually or collectively, are contemplating on compromising their favourable position on the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Adamawa State, Barr Hudu Haruna Ari following the solicitous, solidarity seeking meeting with the leadership of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Adamawa State, led by Hon Bello Babajo.
CNPP members have earlier passed a vote of confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Adamawa State, Barr Hudu Haruna Ari whom they said, they were not only proud of but were also convinced that he would conduct the supplementary governorship election slated for April 15, 2023, without fear or favour.
The Conference made the declaration of confidence at a press conference held on Friday. A declaration said to be sequel to the earlier press conference held by a group referred to as Inter Party Advisory Council, (IPAC) Adamawa State, led by Hon Bello Babajo, calling on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to remove the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Adamawa state, Barr. Hudu Yunusa Ari.
It is all about the supplementary governorship election slated for April 15, 2023; whether or not the Adamawa REC should be replaced. Whist IPAC ssid it has no confidence on the REC would run a free and fair supplementary elections, CNPP help the view that “calling for the removal of the REC whose life was threatened for refusing to submit to undemocratic excesses, executive fascism to consider doctored results announced under duress by a returning officer at a police station in Fufore, surrounded only by the police and the PDP members, rather than at collation centre as infringement of his human right, professional calling, abuse of due process and disrespect to the Independent National Electoral Commission and the rule of law would be the most unfortunate action by any air about desperation”.
Responding to the newsmen, to confirm whether or not the rumour was generated from the authentic source, like flying the kite, waiting for the pronouncement in yet another press conference, the CNPP state chairman, Comrade Jafaru Abba Girei said the rumour could be another form of conspiracy by any means propaganda propagated out of unmanageable desperation of the overambitious.
Girei said CNPP is a group of personalities with and of integrity, who in their struggle to strengthen the participatory democracy they would not join the double standard spirited group of backsliders, the bourgeois modernist escapists who would mortgage their conscience by compromising their position that would not be in anyway reneged.
“If we said that the incorruptible Resident Electoral Commissioner, in our opinion, remains a hero of democracy who deserves a national honour when he must have successfully completed his assignment with the conduct of supplementary governorship election in Adamawa State that he assured would be credible and acceptable, why should we withdraw our position?
“Our confidence in the REC remains unshaken. We are therefore calling on the electorate to join the popular call in condemning election violence, intimidation and threat to Barr Hudu Ari, the REC’s life to be able to complete the supplementary election slated for April 15, 2023,” Girei said.
